weather and climate

This unit focuses on how matter and energy interact in the atmosphere to create Earth’s weather systems. This directly connects with the NGSS crosscutting concept of Matter and Energy: “ Within a natural system, the transfer of energy drives the motion and/or cycling of matter.”

This is my unit’s progression. Eventually (see about me update) the posts will contain downloadable lesson plans but for now they are a collection of my resources and brief lesson descriptions. (Work in Progress)

  • Layers of the Atmosphere
  • Properties of air/Air is fluid
  • Review of Heat Transfer and Observations of Uneven Heating Patterns on Earth
  • Wind
  • Composition of Air (with connections to climate change)
  • Water Cycle
  • Air Masses/Fronts/Weather patterns
  • Thunderstorms
  • Tornadoes
  • Hurricanes
  • Climate Change
